Newfound Fashion Icon

I came across a newfound obsession while surfing the web. Does anyone actually say that any more? Correction: did anyone ever say that? Regardless, I never noticed how gorgeous Frida Giannini is. She's currently the creative director of Gucci and is doing an amazing job considering that Tom Ford was her predecessor and he's a tough act to follow.

Early Life
This Roman-born beauty is forty-one years old and doesn't look a day over twenty-five. I'm not even exaggerating. It's no wonder that she's so successful being born to an architect father and having an art history professor for a mother; the brains and the creativity did not skip a generation with this one. Giannini studied fashion design at Rome's Fashion Academy and then followed with an apprenticeship at a tiny ready-to-wear house.

Life at Gucci
2002 was when she made her move to Gucci as the design director of handbags. When Tom Ford left two years later Ms. Giannini became the creative designer of all accessories, not just handbags. According to Vogue UK, this was an opportunity that she was dying to take because she felt that the classics needed to be updated, such as the Flora scarf pattern. Giannini continued to be promoted and took on new departments as well, finally becoming the creative director for the entire label in 2006.

Inspiration
For the autumn/winter 2011 line Giannini was inspired by Florence Welch. She described Florence as someone who is strong and a bit mysterious, which is the direction she wanted to go in with the collection. Ms. Welch's compelling personality and self-assuredness is what Giannini believed the Gucci woman also embodied.
James Franco, Rihanna, and Mark Ronson were all featured in Gucci campaigns because they "became as popular culturally as they are today." These collaborations all speak for Gucci's success in uniting the past and present, and their ability to forecast the future.
